Phillipson upsets Ammerlaan in Paris

David Phillipson of Great Britain secured a first career win over former Paralympic champion Robin Ammerlaan of the Netherlands on a rain-hit first day at the BNP Paribas French Open, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, in Antony, Paris.

Sixth  seed Ammerlaan, who has slipped one place to No. 9 in this week’s men’s singles world rankings, became the first seeded player to exit the fourth Super Series event of 2012 after Phillipson won 62 63 to earn a second round match against Canada’s Joel Dembe.

Dembe was one of four players, along with Dutch defending champion and second seed Maikel Scheffers, Gordon Reid of Great Britain and Takuya Miki of Japan, to win their first round matches without dropping a single game.
