New resources to support disabled people to use gyms

Further resources have been developed for the leisure industry to attract and support more disabled people to access physical activity. The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IF) has worked alongside two of the National Disability Sport Organisations (NDSOs)- British Blind Sport and Wheelpower- to create useful resources to attract and support adults with a visual impairment and wheelchair users to use gym facilities. Click here to find and download copies of these two helpful resources.

These two separate resources provide advice for leisure and gym facilities on how to market their service provision to fully engage these audiences within the local community so that they are aware of activities and how to access them.

The resource written collaboratively with British Blind Sport also provides useful tips on how to adapt marketing material and communication to be more inclusive and accessible to adults with a visual impairment. Both resources provide useful information about adapting the environment for both impairments to ensure that the gym is more accessible to meet customer’s individual needs.

These two fact sheets form a series of tools are included within the useful resource section of our website. They support people with different impairments more proactively and give useful tips for all elements of the Inclusive Fitness journey.

If you require any specific information you require or have any ideas or examples of better practice that have worked well for you, then we would love to share it with other inclusive gyms and partners. Let us know - contact Jules Twells or call 01509 227750
