EFDS statement on safeguarding in sport and active recreation

It is a priority for the English Federation Disability Sport (EFDS) to ensure that everyone can take part in opportunities that are inclusive, safe, enjoyable and protective. We promote the welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk and their rights to be protected from harm. EFDS is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and adults in sport.

We have worked closely with the Child Protection In Sport Unit (CPSU) and NSPCC to support the development of robust policy and procedures to safeguard children, and are working partnership towards achieving the NSPCC & CPSU's National Advanced Standards for safeguarding and protecting children in sport. We work closely with all our clubs and statutory agencies to ensure that safeguarding children is prioritised. Any allegation, suspicion of harm or concern is taken seriously and responded to swiftly, fairly and appropriately.

As part of our commitment, EFDS developed policies, procedures and guidelines to provide additional information detailing support. It also discusses expectations for those involved, what they should do if they have a safeguarding concern and how any concerns will be managed. This is in line with Government expectations, the Law, Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) Local Safeguarding Adults Board (LSAB) requirements.
