Action in the blind and powerchair section of the FA Disability Cup

The country's elite blind footballers faced off against each other in the Brian Aarons Cup this weekend in Hereford for the chance to reach the final of The FA Disability Cup.

After a day of intense competition, RNC Sport prevailed as victors and will now play league champions Merseyside at St. George's Park on 6 May.

On a day which saw the Turkish national side fly over to play in an exhibition game against a number of the teams involved, England international Roy Turnham won the Golden Boot, Liam Archer was commended as 'most improved player' and Robin Williams was awarded player of the tournament.

The presentation was undertaken by Colin Chaytors, chair of the FA Disability Committee and newest member of The FA's Inclusion Advisory Board, alongside former England Blind boss Tony Larkin and current head coach Jon Pugh.

Meanwhile, in the Powerchair category, current WFA Cup holders Aspire PFC took on Evergreen, who were aiming to upset the favourites.

But after equalising Bobby Williams’ opener for Aspire through Dillon Palmer, they ran out of steam as second-half goals from Charlie Kitcher and Rosie Hodgson helped current Cup holders Aspire run out as 4-1 winners.

"It was a good result today, even if the performance wasn’t as good as we would have liked,” said Aspire captain Jon Bolding.
“It was a close game for a while, but in the end we got the result we wanted. We are looking forward to the final at St George's Park now and we are confident we can retain the WFA Cup title."

The second semi-final will take place on Monday 17 April when Villa Rockets face Sevenoaks PFC.
