British Gymnastics promotes new equality web page

British Gymnastics is proud to announce that it has a new Equality page on its website. The Equality page has been developed to include a range of good practice case studies. These are designed to help gymnastics clubs and coaches with ideas on how they can improve their inclusive provision and accessibility in order to increase the diversity of participants which engage in the sport of gymnastics. The web page also has links to inclusive development toolkits and contains a range of Equality impact audits, the Organisation’s Equality Action Plan and Equality Policy.

The development of the new Equality web page on the British Gymnastics website is just one part of the much wider Equality work which goes on at British Gymnastics. British Gymnastics developed a new Equality Action Plan in 2011 which details the interventions and outcomes that British Gymnastics would set about achieving during the period 2011 – 2013. One of the aims of the action plan was for the Organisation to achieve the Intermediate Level of the Equality Standard for Sport.

As part of the drive to increase diversity within gymnastics, British Gymnastics is working closely with EFDS as one of the focus sports for disabled people. The two organisations have developed an action plan for the sport. It aims to support the NGB to engage more disabled people in gymnastics and increase its accessibility.

British Gymnastics will be launching a Grassroots Disability Programme later on in 2013, so you can expect to see more exciting opportunities for disabled people in gymnastics at a club near you soon!
