EFDS fact sheet on disabled people's participation in Active People Survey 7

Two weeks ago, the latest Sport England Active People Survey figures were released (APS7 Apr 2012-2013). Sport England included topline statistics regarding the levels of participation for disabled people. To supplement this, EFDS have created a fact sheet, which provides more detail- looking at the level of participation by gender, impairment and age.

The key findings from the fact sheet show when looking at once a week and once a month participation:

  • Although participation for disabled people has remained relatively static over the last year, the significant increase seen since baseline in 2008 has been maintained.
  • However participation levels are still around half the level than for non disabled people
  • Participation among people with sensory impairments is much lower than for other impairments
  • The gap between disabled men’s and disabled women’s participation has continued to narrow as more disabled women take part
