Boccia England achieves National Governing Body status

Boccia England is delighted to announce its official recognition as the National Governing Body for boccia in England.

Awarded by Sport England, the decision has been approved by the home country sports council and UK Sport. As the new NGB, they are an independent, self-appointed organisation that governs the sport of boccia, one of the fastest growing Paralympic sports. They are experts in their field and are responsible for managing and developing the sport across England.

Prior to becoming a fully independent organisation on 1 January 2012, Boccia England operated under the auspices of CP Sport from March 2009, achieving charitable status in November 2010.

Boccia England chair, Dick Harwood, said:

“Getting this formal recognition from Sport England is a fantastic achievement. It marks a key milestone in our development and is reward for the efforts of many people over several years.”

So, what does this mean for boccia enthusiasts? For the athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, members and supporters, they will continue to manage and develop the sport we are all so passionate and knowledgeable about, and now, proudly with the authority that national recognition brings.
