Calling IFI sites to get involved in new England Athletics programmes

England Athletics have launched two new programmes. Run England, the official recreational running project, which aims to get the whole nation running or pushing and AthleFITfit a brand new fitness programme which combines athletics with a fun and exciting programme of getting and keeping fit. England Athletics want IFI Mark facilities to get involved!

Run England - Regardless of age, fitness level, aspiration, background, or location anyone can be a part of Run England and benefit from being a part of England's running community. The Run England team helps and encourages more people to run, and to run more often. Run England enables people to do their running, their way, where they are while benefitting from the support and encouragement of the wider running community. In addition Push England is a specific marketing tool to attract more wheelchair users to take part in recreational pushing as part of Run England.

IFI Mark facilities can get involved with Run England and Push England by:

1. Marking a 3-2-1 route:

  • 3-2-1 is Run England’s project which aims to provide a range of distance-marked running, jogging or pushing routes across the country that anyone can have a go at.
  • Local providers working in partnership with athletics clubs and Run England groups can mark routes that are 3, 2 and 1 miles, kilometres or laps suitable target distances for anyone who wishes to have a go!
  • Information such as surface type, public transport, obstacles and facilities is given about the route to help individuals determine if it is accessible to them.
  • For more information see www.runengland.org/3-2-1

2. Setting up a group:

  • Anyone looking to run with other people can get the personal advice, support, and camaraderie of running with a group led by a qualified, insured Group Leader.
  • For more information see www.runengland.org/groups

3. Train staff as a leader:

AthleFIT “takes athletics to the people” by providing accessible non-competitive fitness sessions based upon athletics and ultimately - where there is a desire - a link through to athletics clubs and competition.

bringing athletics to the people in a fun, vibrant and inclusive format and to the places where the people want to take part and feel comfortable doing so.”

AthleFIT has been piloted throughout the UK and is now going live nationwide throughout 2013. IFI Mark facilities can get involved by organising leader training and sessions at their facility.

Take a look at the video at www.athlefit.org and see if AthleFIT is something that you’d be interested in delivering at your facility.
