Sport Cheshire launches fund to support Cheshire's Rising Stars

Sport Cheshire has reached agreement with BiG Storage on a new sponsorship deal to offer support to the brightest young sporting talent in the county. Rising Stars is a flagship project developed within Sport Cheshire's mission to get 50,000 more people, more active, more often by 2017.

Rising Stars offers a bursary to top young Cheshire and Warrington athletes aiming to compete at international events such as the Olympics, Paralympics or a World Championships. It also offers a support programme in partnership with the Sport Science Masters students at the University of Chester alongside other benefits from their local partners.

Michael Darby, Vice-Chair of Sport Cheshire, said:

"Sport Cheshire is proud to enter into a sponsorship agreement with BiG Storage to enable more of our gifted young sportspeople to achieve their ambitions. Sport Cheshire are committed to creating local opportunities to allow local participants to compete and participate at their chosen level"

The sponsor for the awards, BiG Storage, is one of the most progressive storage companies in the North West, with branches locally in Chester, Warrington and Macclesfield. They are have been long-standing supporters of community sport locally, sponsoring numerous sporting clubs including Chester FC, the Cheshire Phoenix, Warrington Wolves and Macclesfield FC.

Andrew Donaldson said of the sponsorship 'BiG Storage is proud to become the first sponsor of the Sports Cheshire Rising Stars Awards:

"As a company we have always been committed to helping people and via sponsoring these awards we can help young people in sport take a step closer to realising their dreams. We also hope that via raising our own business profile other companies will come forward and support our aspiring sports people of Cheshire and Warrington"

Over the course of the year Sport Cheshire and BiG Storage will be supporting a further twenty Rising Stars to help inspire the next generation of young sporting talent.

In July, EFDS announced our focus County Sports Partnerships (CSPs). Our dedicated Engagement Officers will work with the chosen nine across England so they can receive more concentrated support to increase disabled people’s participation at a local level. Sport Cheshire was one of those chosen CSPs and Tom Webster is the Engagement Officer supporting their work.
