Nottinghamshire School Games recognised at National Awards

The School Games Organisers Network National Summit awards recognise outstanding achievement throughout the Sainsbury's School Games competition pathway.

The awards ceremony took place at the Kettering Conference Centre on Monday 16 October 2013, and was attended by 450 School Games Organisers from all over the Country.

Having previously been awarded the top prize for ‘outstanding engagement in competition’ expectations were high for Sport Nottinghamshire. They were not disappointed this year and came away with two National Awards.

The first award was for the Local Organising Committee and entitled ‘Leading the way’ for this they were ‘Highly commended’. The award was made in recognition for driving participation, developing competitive opportunities, identifying performance development areas and delivering a high quality festival.

The second award went to Eddie Fenwick who achieved ‘Highly commended’ in the ‘Exceptional Young Person Award’.  Eddie aged 16 who attends Dukeries Academy, in Nottinghamshire and is a platinum leader in the Nottinghamshire Leadership Academy Network, was recognised for his outstanding contributions to school and community sport in Nottinghamshire.

Also performing at the event was 13 year old Holly Fallon who performed an outstanding and inspiring version of ‘Titanium’ at the conference. She was the only young person selected to perform at the national event following her show-stopping performance at the Sainsbury’s School Games (Nottinghamshire) in 2012. Holly took the stage alongside Olympic gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu and Youth Sport Trust Chair Baroness Sue Campbell. She was given a rapturous reception and was thanked for performing by John Steele, CEO of the Youth Sport Trust.

Rob Cook Youth Sport Manager at Sport Nottinghamshire who attended the event said:

“I’m really proud of all the achievements by the team from Nottinghamshire, which have been recognised in today’s National Awards.  We’re now in the process of organising the Sainsbury’s School Games for 2014 and I am confident with such a talented and committed team behind it, next year’s event will be even bigger and better than in 2013.”
