CPD Disability Badminton Coaching Course

BADMINTON England is now running the 'Disability Badminton Coaching Course', which has been developed by the Four Nations Badminton Committee.

The course aims to equip coaches with knowledge about the functional ability of disabled players when constructing and implementing practices and skill development sessions. It is aimed at coaches currently working with disabled athletes or coaches wanting further information on how to make their sessions more inclusive.


The course outcomes are as follows:

  • to provide information about Disability classifications - laws and rules as identified by ‘Parabadminton World Federation’ (PBWF) and recognised and endorsed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
  • to provide candidates with the skills and ideas appropriate to providing safe, progressive and enjoyable badminton sessions for individuals with disabilities, for the following categories.
    - Wheelchair badminton
    - Standing badminton (Upper and Lower Limb)
    - Learning Disability badminton
  • to provide candidates with knowledge about how to make adaptations to coaching badminton technique

At the end of the course coaches will be able to put their new coaching knowledge into practice when players with physical, sensory and learning impairments are invited to attend a badminton festival as part of the course.

The course is one day in duration and is open to all coaches that hold a Level 2 (or above) badminton qualification. Coaches should be actively coaching in either a disability or non-disability setting. The cost of the course is £70 per coach or £60 for BADMINTON England Registered Coaches.
