Typhoo Sports for All

SUPPORTERS

Sir Geoff Hurst - Typhoo Sports for All Campaign Ambassador

I can’t imagine my life without sport – it defines me and the way I live. Taking up sport full time was the best career move I ever made and I’m lucky that I was able to take it to a professional level and do what I love every day –some people don’t get that privilege, that’s why the Typhoo Sports For All is such an important initiative.

Coaching is at the heart of the Government's plans to increase participation in sport. A good coach can not only inspire people to take up sport but also to stick at it, and to be the best that they can be. Typhoo's Sport for All scheme is an exciting initiative that will help get disabled people active - and it is a great example of business doing something really positive for communities , supporting our drive to get two million more people more active by 2012. I am sure it will be a great success.

When I started playing football and at an early age, it was the coaches who we relied on- to turn up to every session, teach us the basics skills we needed, but more importantly to encourage us to enjoy playing sport. Hopefully with all our help this initiative will provide many more coaches and successful disabled sports stars.

The most important legacy commitment from London 2012 is our pledge to use the Olympics to get more people playing sport. A key component of this is the delivery of high quality coaches.  Sport is good for people of all ages but it provides a particularly important opportunity for anyone with a disability. It is why I could not endorse the Federation of Disability Sport's 'Sports for All' campaign more strongly.

Tony Blair - Founder of the Tony Blair Sports Foundation
I am delighted to support this exciting new initiative. Importantly it will raise the profile of disability sport and enable more disabled people to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle. The Tony Blair Sports Foundation will work with the team at EFDS to identify and train more community coaches so we can ensure more disabled people can take part in sport, as we work to train the next generation of Olympians and Paralympians.

I have witnessed first-hand the work that goes on at Everton when we had a training session at Finch Farm for some of the disabled players. I think it’s fantastic that this sort of work is part of our football club. The good work that goes on wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication of the coaches – it must be a hugely rewarding job.
Marc Woods - Paralympic athlete and BBC Commentator

As an athlete I was passionate about being the best I could be and the role that coaches played in my journey through sport was crucial. I'm delighted to support the Typhoo Sports for All programme. I'm sure it will have an impact on everyone from those just seeking to get more out of their sporting experience through to our future Paralympians.

Fitness for me is a way of life and something everyone should be able to do-whatever their fitness level or ability. The campaign will give so many people the chance to take up sport who may have thought previously that this door was closed to them.

Sport is so important to me, it makes you feel good, it's great for health, confidence and fun. It should be easily available to everyone." Typhoo Sports for All Disability Inclusion course will give community sports coaches the confidence and skills to include disabled people in their coaching sessions.

Sports were a major part of my own childhood and I believe whether you’re able bodied or disabled, people should have equal access to sports facilities and the opportunity to enjoy sport whether just for fun or as a door into competing at a professional level, the sports for all is a fantastic campaign.

It’s a great campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to be part of a team, and as a band we know how important it is to have the support of a group of friends.

I believe everyone should have the same opportunities in life and, whatever your disability, it’s important to have access to sport. This is a great initiative that will enable this to become a reality.

After my attack this year I was unable to do things for myself like driving or walking. It put everything into perspective knowing that some people will never walk or drive again. This campaign will help so many people along with EFDS its fantastic! Good Luck love Danielle XXX
