England team too strong for Pakistan after record score

England made it two wins on the bounce as they beat Pakistan by eight runs at the ICRC International T20 Tournament for people with physical disabilities (impairments).

Having beaten India yesterday, England won the toss and posted 156 for six from their 20 overs, with opener Alex Hammond smashing 55 off 47 balls.

With some explosive hitting from man-of-the-match Callum Flynn, who hit 42 off just 26 deliveries, and a handy run-a-ball 22 from Jamie Goodwin, England were able to register their highest-ever PD T20 score.

Pakistan looked to be on course for an impressive chase as Rehan Gani hit 54 off 40 balls, but when he was caught by skipper Iain Nairn off Hammond, England had the advantage.

And tight bowling by Fred Bridges, who posted figures of 2-28 off his four overs, and Flynn, with 2-9 off two, kept Pakistan down to 148 for eight and sealed an eight-run win.

England skipper Nairn said:

“It was a great game of T20 cricket. Forget about disability - what we saw today were two sides playing hard cricket and a huge desire to win from both.

“We batted really well against a strong Pakistani bowling attack. To post another high total gave us great confidence going into the second half.

“Credit to Pakistan for pushing us so hard. We look forward to a rest day tomorrow before our final group game against Afghanistan.”
