Brit winner Reid becomes latest tennis world number one

Gordon Reid has become the latest Brit to earn a world number one wheelchair tennis ranking after winning his second Doubles Masters title on Saturday in Mission Viejo, California.

Reid has gone to the top of the men’s doubles rankings for the first time in his career after partnering Frenchman Michael Jeremiasz to victory at the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters, the ITF’s year-end championship for the world’s top doubles players.

Fellow Brits Jordanne Whiley, Andy Lapthorne and Jamie Burdekin were runner-up in the women’s and quad doubles respectively.

Reid said:

“I’m really pleased to win the title after coming close last year. To reverse the result is really satisfying and to become doubles world number one is an added bonus.

“This week also gives me added confidence for the NEC Masters in London next month and now I’ve got my second Doubles Masters title I really want to add the singles equivalent in front of a home crowd.”

The last remaining tickets for the Masters are now on sale starting from just £2 for community groups and schools up to a maximum of £15 for the weekend semi-finals and finals. All kids can come along for just £1 and there is an Activity Zone full of entertainment for all the family.

Tickets can be purchased online.
