Swimmers impress on day one of Nationwide Short Course
Paralympic champions Jessica-Jane Applegate, Jonathan Fox and Josef Craig set world records on day one at the Nationwide Short Course Swimming Championships to make it an amazing return to the pool after London 2012.
Applegate started the ball rolling in her first event of the day as she clocked 1:00.70 to claim 100m Freestyle gold in the S11 – S15 category and set her new S14 world marker.
The 16-year old then added a second gold with an British record 1:08.99 in the 100m Butterfly before completing a hat-trick of titles with victory in the 200m Freestyle in 2:13.61.
World and Paralympic champion Fox also claimed his new world record in the morning session, lowering his S7 100m Backstroke mark to 1:09.83 as he claimed gold in the S1 – S10 category.
The final world record of the day came in the 400m Freestyle as S7 Paralympic champion Craig claimed a new short course record as he took S1 – S10 category gold in 4:42.60.
There was more success for Craig as he scooped S1 - S10 category 100m Freestyle gold in a personal best 1:02.18.
Eleni Papadopoulos claimed a hat-trick of golds, lifting the S1 – S10 100m Individual Medley (1:13.76) and 100m Butterfly (1:11.08) titles, both in S10 European records, before finishing the afternoon by taking the 200m Individual Medley (2:36.73) crown.
Davies set a British record 1:07.19 to claim the 100m Backstroke before adding the 100m and 200m Individual Medley titles to her collection while Procter topped the podium in the 100m Freestyle as well as the 100m and 200m Individual Medleys.
Tully Kearney was the final record-breaking champion on the day, setting a new S10 European record of 4:40.69 as she took gold in the 400m Freestyle.
London 2012 Paralympian Andrew Mullen also set a new European record in the SM5 200m Individual Medley (3:12.14) while there were British records for Simon Miller (SM9 100m Individual Medley - 1:06.16), Susie Rodgers (S7 100m Freestyle - 1:14.03), Hannah Russell (S12 100m Freestyle - 1:01.33) and James Clegg (S12 400m Freestyle - 4:31.96).
