Become an Inspiration Club

There is still time to apply for England Athletics' new Inspiration Club project. The project offers the chance for clubs to apply for a package of support related to delivering athletics for disabled people. Inspiration Clubs represents a fantastic opportunity for clubs to improve their current disability provision and share expertise with neighbouring clubs. Or, for clubs who have no experience of engaging disabled athletes, to start developing coaches and volunteers to do so.

A minimum of 10 clubs (four in London) will be chosen as Inspiration Clubs by applying for either a Kick Start or Ambassador package. Clubs who would like to be recognised for existing work in this area but do not want to apply for a support package can instead apply to be a recognised Inspiration Club and use of the logo.

Inspiration Clubs is the first project of several related to the work England Athletics are doing in preparation for London hosting the 2017 IPC World Championships. It builds on the recent announcement of Team Personal Best last month, a campaign throughout the summer of 2017 to inspire a programme of local community activities designed to get people involved in grassroot athletics.

England Athletics want to ensure that there are opportunities for disabled people of all impairment groups to participate in and enjoy club athletics. The Inspiration Club programme aims to support a selection of England Athletics affiliated clubs and their partner clubs, to enable them to improve knowledge, skills and capacity in providing inclusive athletics. These clubs will not only be ideal places for disabled people wanting to give athletics and running a go but also provide a talent pathway for those who would like to take athletics further.

England Athletics National Disability Manager, Helen Newberry said:

“This programme is a unique chance for clubs to receive a package of training, mentoring and in some cases equipment to really help them embed disability athletics in to their sessions and activities. Clubs have an opportunity to harness the excitement and coverage of the London 2017 IPC & IAAF Championships, be recognised for the inclusive athletics they are delivering and attract new people to the sport.”
