GO GOLD Special Olympian Fund Opens in Leicestershire

Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS), supported by funding from Leicestershire County Council, have now introduced new criteria to financially support talented Special Olympians living in Leicestershire, through the GO GOLD Special Olympian Fund.

Building on the success of the Leicester-Shire & Rutland GO GOLD Talented Athlete Fund, Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) is now pleased to introduce new criteria to support talented athletes who have a learning disability and are competing at a high level, such as the National Games.

At the Special Olympics 2013 National Games held in Bath this summer, 33 Leicestershire athletes competed and secured a total of 96 medals between them. It is the aim of this scheme to support such athletes who are achieving and have the potential to develop their skills and further progress.

This funding can only be awarded to those aged between 12 and 25-years-old, All applicants or nominators should ensure that they have evidence of the competitions they have participated in, with times/distances and positions, in order to demonstrate the progression and development we are looking to support.

In this round of funding LRS is aiming to support 10 athletes, each with a maximum of £300.

Visit www.lrsport.org/gogoldspecialolympianfunding for more information and to download the application form. The deadline for applications is 10 December 2013.
