Young para swimmers take part in thrilling National Championships
Coventry played host to two days of thrilling action at the National Junior Para-Swimming Championships this weekend.
More than 100 young disabled swimmers from all over the UK took to the pool, many leaving with new personal bests and Activity Alliance medals. The Championships is a well-established part of the nation’s swimming pathway for young disabled people. Many world and Paralympic medallists have discovered their talent at this event over the years.
A team of dedicated volunteers and swimming officials oversaw the successful event, one that Activity Alliance delivers in partnership with Swim England.
Ahead of the event Martin Lees, Swim England Para-Swimming Development Manager said:
"This is a great opportunity for young swimmers to compete against other athletes from across the country. It’s incredible to see the next generation coming through and with the World Para-Swimming Championships in Manchester just around the corner.”
The field consisted of 10-18 years olds competing in Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Individual Medley and Butterfly.
Activity Alliance works towards our vision, fairness for disabled people in sport and activity. Hosting the National Junior Para-Swimming Championships is a great example of how we ensure more disabled people can access more opportunities in sport and activity. We’re proud to have seen more than 5,000 talented young disabled people take part in our junior swimming programme over the years.
